Check your battery
Check the fluid level in a conventional battery, or the window on a maintenance-free battery. If the battery is more than five years old, it may need to be replaced.
Check your tires
Make sure your tires are in good condition and have enough tread. You can also consider investing in snow tires or tire socks.
Check your windshield wipers
Replace worn wiper blades, or install heavy-duty winter wipers if you live in an area with lots of snow and ice.
Check your antifreeze
Make sure your vehicle's reservoir is full of high-quality winter fluid with de-icer.
Wash your car
Wash your car more frequently in the winter, ideally every 10 days or once a week if it snows often.
Start your car
If you leave your car idle for a long time, start it at least once a week and let it run for 10–15 minutes.
Prepare an emergency kit
Keep a winter safety kit in your car.
Drive safely
Slow down, drive in previous tire tracks, and add weight to the rear of your car if it's rear-wheel drive.
